This K01 Mentored Research Scientist Development Award will support the candidate in developing an independent research career to investigate modifiable risk and protective factors associated with behavioral health status (substance use and psychological problems), and behavioral health services utilization in Army service members who deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, specifically focusing on Warrior Transition Unit (WTU) assignment, and gender and racial/ethnic disparities in military health care. The career development plan objectives are to train the candidate in advanced biostatistical, epidemiological, and health services research methods to conduct population-based research using a unique database consisting of Department of Defense Military Health System data.
